Rome Rankings Series: In a shocking turn of events, Russia’s women wrestlers had to withdraw from the Matteo Pellicone after failing the COVID-19 test. Russia had sent a 20 wrestler squad for the Rome Rankings but they were not allowed to compete after failing the mandatory coronavirus test.
Olympic champion Natalia Vorobyeva, who was returning to the mat for her first competition since the triumphant European Championship 2020, was the captain of the Russian Women’s team. Besides her 2016 Olympic Games silver medallist Valeria Koblova, who was returning to international competitions after more than a three-year break was also scheduled to participate.
Meanwhile, Russia finished first in the Greco-Roman team rankings. The Soviet nation bagged gold medals in 55kg, 60kg, 82kg and 97kg.
