The Russian Wrestling Federation will organise its senior national championships in September and October for women and men freestyle repectively. The events will be held behind closed doors which means there will be no audience to watch it live. The announcement was made by Minister of Sports of Russia Alan Khugaev. He said, ” We have worked out this issue with Rospotrebnadzor, we are recommended to hold this championship without spectators”. The epidemiological situation in the republic and around the world does not allow us to risk people’s health. If the Russian Wrestling Federation and the country’s Ministry of Sports meet the requirements that we have voiced, we are ready to hold the championship at the highest level, but without spectators. ”
The women’s freestyle wrestling championship will be held in September. Originally planned for May, the competitions were postponed due to covid-19. The tournament will take place in two days – September 26-27. The venue remained unchanged – the “AK Bars” Martial Arts Palace (Kazan, Tatarstan, RF).
The tournament will determine not only the champions of Russia but also the participants of the world championship, which is tentatively scheduled for December in Belgrade (Serbia). The upcoming tournament is a debut in the status of the main Bulgarian Simeon Shterev, has replaced Magomed Aliomarov who died in May due to the virus.
Meanwhile, the Russian freestyle wrestling championship will be held in October in Vladikavkaz.
