SAI allows women wrestlers to train under personal coaches during camp

Sports Authority of India (SAI) has allowed elite women wrestlers to continue their training under personal coaches via video chats even during the national camp which begins for October 10 in Lucknow. Tokyo Olympic hopeful Divya Kakran will be one of the participants at the 83-day camp. She will be taking online lessons from coach Vladimir Mestvirishvili who returned to Georgia in April due to the increase in COVID-19 cases. “I will continue to train with my coach (Vladimir) via video calls,” the 2020 Asian Championship gold medallist said. “We have been together since 2017, and he has helped me improve a lot. Other wrestlers including world medallist Pooja Dhanda and Olympic bronze medal winner Sakshi Malik, too plans to make the most of the services. Some will even make an official request to SAI to allow their personal trainer to stay within the campus.

Dhanda has been allowed to bring her physiotherapist and mental conditioning coach Satyaprakash Singh at the SAI campus. Upon arrival, all the 15 participants, and the support staff will be put under 14-day mandatory quarantine as per the COVID-19 protocols.

For the first seven days, they will be in individual quarantine after which they will spend seven days in a non-contact situation. According to sources, SAI has installed 14 CCTV cameras to monitor everyone 24×7.
