India’s wrestling ‘Super Mom’ Gursharan Preet Kaur spends her time training, helping her mother in the kitchen and teaching her kid alphabets. “She is just five-years-old so I am teaching her alphabets, poems and numbers. After hours of teaching now she can recite alphabets up to ‘J’,” she says.

Just like anyone else, Gursharan, 36, is also in self-isolation in her home in Mohanpur, Punjab due to coronavirus outbreak. The pandemic has indeed disrupted the women’s national camp which she was part of, but it has also given her a chance to see her five-year-old daughter grow and be a part of it.

“Ever since my return, I have been busy with training. I left my daughter with my mother and have not been able to spend much time with her due to my commitment to wrestling. But now, when I have it, I am making the most of it,” the 2020 Asian Championship bronze medallist told WretlingTV.

Gursharan made a comeback to wrestling after eight years and believes that the postponement of Tokyo Games is like a blessing to her. “I think, it is a signal from the almighty. He wanted to give me one more chance to prove my worth. And this time I will”.

She trains twice a day. But what is more interesting is her daughter who imitates her in training. “She is very curious about wrestling. Whenever I train, she will come and start practising the moves with me. Sometimes she will also do shadow wrestling for fun”.

Seeing this Gursharan believes that one day her daughter might carry on the legacy. “I am very seeing her wrestle. It is good and probably she will take up the sport and continue our family’s legacy,” she added.
