The Greco-Roman competition at the Pan American Olympic Qualifiers for Tokyo 2020 are completed and two more wrestlers in each weight category have secured the quota place for the Olympics. Cuban wrestlers have created a unique record by becoming the first nation to qualify for each of the 6 weight categories for Tokyo in the Greco-Roman form of wrestling.
At the end of the first continental qualifiers before the 2020 Summer Games, 13 European countries and six Asian and American nations each have qualified. Cuba has qualified in all six weight categories. The USA are close behind with four qualifications.
Russia, Iran, Uzbekistan, and Germany have three berths each, while Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Serbia, Hungary, Armenia, Turkey, and Georgia have qualified in two weight classes.
Other countries who have at least one spot booked in one of the six categories are Japan, Denmark, Egypt, Sweden, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Poland, Colombia, Mexico, Chile, Brazil and Estonia.
The Asian, European, and African & Oceanian Olympic Qualifiers are yet to be held. For wrestlers who fail to qualify in the continental qualifiers will have one last chance at the World Olympic Qualifiers.
Some of the big names such as Victor Lorincz, Ismael Borrero, Cenk Ildem and Riza Kayaalp had managed to qualify in 2019 World Championships.
Oscar Pino Hinds who won a silver medal and a confirmed place for Cuba in 130kg will interestingly feature at the Pan American Qualifiers. He will now be competing in 125kg freestyle men.
