2014 Commonwealth Games gold medallist wrestler turned politician Babita Phogat has been on the receiving end after a series of communal tweets by her. The 30-year-old on Wednesday took to Twitter and wrote “?????? ????? ???? ?? ????? ???? ?? ???? ???? ?????? ??? ????? ????? ??? ?? ???? ???? ?? ??? ??? ??? #jahiljamati (Coronavirus is the second biggest problem in India, uncivilised Jamaati are India’s number one)”.

She drew a lot of criticism for her communally charged tweet but soon the attention shifted to Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut’s sister and manager Rangoli Chandel.
She posted a tweeted on Wednesday saying, “A Jamaati dies of corona…when police went to check their families they were attacked and killed, secular media,” she wrote. Chandel further added, “…make these mullahs + secular media stand in a line and shoot them dead… f***k history, they may call us Nazis (but) who cares. Life is more important than a fake image”.

Twitter took note of this and was quick to act. Keeping in line with their guidelines, they suspended Chandel’s account indefinitely. However, Phogat took a stand for Chandel and wrote that Twitter does not like those who speak “truth” on its platform.
Following this, Twitteratis are also calling for the suspension of Phogat’s account too. On Friday, #SuspendBabitaPhogat was the top trending hashtag in India on Twitter.
Nizamuddin was first reported as a coronavirus “hotbed” after a Tablighi Jamaat congregation took place in Bangalewaali Masjid, a week before India went into its nationwide lockdown.
The community came from across India and abroad, the latter allegedly bringing the virus with them and spreading it around the Markhaz during the event.
India saw a spike in its cases after the first case was reported from the Tablighi Jamaat community. Currently, the country has over 13,000 positive cases with the death toll reaching to more than 400.
