Gaurav Baliyan showed promise but made mistakes, that has been the story of India’s most agile and talked about wrestler at the UWW U23 World Wrestling Championships in Budapest. Gaurav who was up against Fazli ERYILMAZ of Turkey in the repechage round opener at the U23 World Wrestling championships in second bout of the repechage round gave 6-0 lead to his opponent in 15secs of the bout.
Baliyan somehow regained his composure in next 2 mins to make a comeback in the match with score reading at 4-6 in favor of Turkish wrestler. The fight in the bout lasted only till that point of time as Fazli mauled Baliyan in next 30 secs to wrap up the bout with technical superiority and scoreline 14-4 in his favor.
The victory gives Fazli a shot at the Bronze medal.
Earlier In the 74kg category repechage round opener, Gaurav was up against Brady Berge of USA. Baliyan was leading 6-0 against Berge when his opponent fell unconscious on the mat. It appeared with Gaurav’s move, Berge may have been knocked unconcious during the exhange. Gourav quickly picked up two tilts before medical staff ran to the mat to attend to Berge. The Penn State sophomore was unable to continue and had to be carted off the mat.
The medical staff present at the venue, tried to revive the American for few minutes but as they could not the American athlete was taken to the hospital and Gaurav was declared the winner.
