The 3rd edition of the U23 World Wrestling Championship concluded in Budapest, Hungary on Sunday. The 7 day wrestling extravaganza saw some heartbreaks, exemplary performances, glory & joy for some & tears and blood for some. Overall the U23 world championship became witness to some of the glorious performances of recent times. India won two medals this time at the world championships but failed to finish in top 10 of the team rankings in any of the category.
Women FS @ U23 World Championships – Glory for Japan Women
Japan women gave the most noteworthy performance of the world championships. So dominant was the Japanese women that they won medals in each of the category at the world championships. That means all 10 women who competed in 10 categories of the women competition won a medal for Japan. This resulted in whooping 230 points for Japan as a team and they finished 125 points ahead then the second placed China. Never ever any team has been so dominant the way it was Japan women this time at Budapest.

Greco Roman – Iran is the king, nudged Georgia to number 2
In the last two editions of the Greco-Roman competitions at U23 World champions in Poland (2017) & Romania (2018), Georgia has been undisputed champions of the category. But this time in Budapest (2019), Georgia got its match as Iran nudged them to second position with exceptional wrestling by the most talented bunch of wrestlers from the country. Iran won 3 gold medals in 63kg, 72, & 130 kg weight categories and that resulted in they being crowned as U23 world Greco-Roman champions as Georgia got pushed to second place in the team rankings.

Men’s Freestyle – Catch me if you can says Russia
Yes, this was the message Russian freestyle men’s wrestling team gave it to the world – Catch me if you can. Like the last 2 editions Russia again are on the top of the team rankings with 145 points. 6 Russian men were on the podium but the worrying part was that only 1 could win the Gold for the champions. 3 Gold medal winners became the reason for Iran to finish at number 2 in the team rankings with 139 points and also with a message for Russia – that we may catch you next time.
