India’s Jyoti has entered the quarter-finals of the U23 World Wrestling Championships in Budapest on Day3 of the competitions. 20-year-old Indian wrestler defeated Tatsiana YAFREMENKA of Belarus in the last 16 bouts of the 50kg weight category. Despite of her small frame, the Indian wrestler outwitted her taller opponent from Belarus 6-1.
Jyoti who hails from Hisar, Haryana is the bronze medal winner of U23 Asian Championships in 2018 and will now face Maria LEORDA of Moldova in the last 8 bout later in the day. Leorda won Junior world championships bronze medal this year.
Disappointing day for the other Indian girls
Earlier the other Indian girls in the 76kg, 55kg, & 68kg categories lost out their opening round bouts in an extremely disappointing display.
In the 76kg category India’s Pooja was no match for Precious Rosanna BELL of USA. In 55kg
India’s Rani Rana lost to another American wrestler at the qualification stage.
In 68kg India’s Suman tried her best against YingYing Wang of China but gave the lead in the last 20 seconds to lose out to Chinese champion.
In the 59kg, India’s Pooja Yadav lost out to Tianina Kennett of Canada by 6-2
