Great Falls native Mike Zadick has been selected to head up the USA men’s freestyle U23 wrestling team for the U23 World Championships starting from 28th October in Budapest which will be showcased live on WrestlingTV.in.

A graduate of Great Falls High, Zadick will take the reins of the national freestyle squad for competitors 23 years old and younger for Worlds in Budapest, Hungary, from Oct. 28-Nov. 3. Zadick, whose older brother Bill is the head coach of USA Wrestling’s national freestyle team, boasts a coaching resume that includes a long tenure at his alma mater Iowa, as well as assistant coaching stints with Virginia Tech and Iowa State.

Former star women’s wrestler Nicole Tyson was named the women’s U23 women’s freestyle coach, while highly successful coach Jay Antonelli will head up the Greco-Roman team.

At Virginia Tech, Zadick helped the Hokies compile a 34-3 dual record while seeing 11 grapplers earn All-American honors and eight athletes win ACC conference titles, according to USA Wrestling. He was most recently the associate head coach for the Iowa State for one season.

Zadick is among the most decorated wrestlers in Montana history, winning four straight Class AA individual titles for the Bison from 1994-97 before earning NCAA All-American honors three times at Iowa.

He was also successful on the world stage, earning a silver medal at the 2006 World Championships in freestyle and was a member of the Olympic team at the 2008 games in Beijing, China.

Zadick and brother Bill put on an annual camp in the summer in Great Falls, the Zadick Bros Wrestling Camp, which often attracts high-profile guest coaches such as Olympic champion Kyle Snyder, two-time Olympian and UFC heavyweight champion MMA fighter Daniel Cormier.
