Wrestling: Since the disastrous 2016 Rio Olympics for Vinesh Phogat, she has seen an uptrend in her career graph. The wrestler has won at least bronze in every second competition she fought in since 2018 including golds at Asian and Commonwealth Games (2018) and bronze at Asian and World Championships (2019). She believes that moving up in weight category has been the right decision for her.
The 26-year-old had moved to 50kg in 2018 and by the time the Nur-Sultan World Championships arrived (first Tokyo Olympic Qualifiers) she was competing in the 53kg which is an Olympic weight category. She won bronze in the competition and was the lone Indian women wrestler to qualify for the quadrennial tournament. In an interview with United World Wrestling (UWW), she talks about how moving up in weight class boosted her career.
