Russia has once again proved they are the undisputed kings in the world of wrestling. Once again Russian wrestlers have proved their superiority on the rest of the world.

If in 2018 edition at Budapest, Greco-Roman did the star act for Russia, this time the men’s freestyle wrestling team was the star for Russia.

Budapest 2018 Russia won 13 medals including 10 Gold

Nur-Sultan 2019 Russia won 19 medals including 9 Gold

Russia’s domination in the Men’s freestyle can be gauged from the fact that out of 10 weight categories, Russia wrestlers won medals in 9 weight categories including 5 gold medals. Only category where wrestler from Russia failed to make the medal round was 125kg. In the overall medal tally USA finished second with 5 golds and Georgia number 3 with 4 gold medals. India with 5 medals were placed at 17th position in the overall medal tally.

Team Rankings

Like in Budapest, in the team rankings Russia topped the table this time as well in both Men’s freestyle as well as Greco-Roman category. In women’s competition Russia was number 2 in the list behind Japan. The top 8 teams in each category will qualify for the respective world cups.

Host Kazakhstan – The most improved

In 2018, Kazakhstan did not figure in top 10 of any category but 2019 has been the most productive year for the host nation. Kazakhstan finished with number 2 position in the Men’s freestyle, No. 6 in the women freestyle and number 5 in the Greco-Roman. This means Kazakhstan has clearly emerged as the most improved & upcoming wrestling nation of the world.

Japan – The women champion but with only 1 Gold

Japan is always considered as top wrestling nation of the world, especially in the women category. In Nur-Sultan also Japan finished as number 1 in the women team rankings with 137 points. The only sour point was that this time Japan could only win 1 gold in comparison to 4 last time.
