Olympic Champion Jordan Burroughs has extended support to all the wrestling fans of Iran. The US grappler in an Instagram video chanted for Iran and said that he misses them. He added that he cannot wait for things to normalise so that he can compete again.
“Showing some love to all of the wonderful Iranian wrestling fans! There’s nothing like hearing this chant in the stands. Can’t wait to compete again! I dream of leaping into the stands and leading the crowd in this chant!,” he wrote.
Iran is one of the worst-hit countries from the pandemic. Until today they have registered they have confirmed 67,286 cases. The death toll is above 4,000 while near to 30,000 have recovered.
Earlier, wrestlers across the world took to social in a massive number to encourage people to “Stay Strong and Stay at Home!” initiative.
Over 70 athletes including Burroughs, Iran’s Hassan Yazdani, Japan’s Saori Yoshida, and Armenia’s Artur Aleksanyan came together and voiced solidarity in the fight against COVID-19 crisis. They urged their fans to stay at home as a measure of precaution against the pandemic.
The video was shared by United World Wrestling (UWW) on all of their social media platforms.
UWW President Nenad Lalovic also shared a short message for the world. He urged the community to understand that “courage today means wisdom and responsibility” and that we will all get through this soon.
