The USA team has come to Japan with high hopes and with 3 world champions in their squad and as expected they started on a winning note by throwing second-seeded Russia out of medal contention.
GROUP B – USA thrashes Russia 8-2
American team aided by wins from all the 3 world champions in their ranks defeated Russia 7-3 to win the tie in style. The most impressive of the lot was 55kg world champ Jacarra Winchester who defeated the bronze medallist of the world championship Olga Khoroshavtseva of Russia in a tough battle 5-4. Adeline Gray & Tamyra Mensah was at their ruthless best as they crushed Russian wrestlers to earn victory for the American team. With this Russia lost their second consecutive tie to crash out from the medal contention at the world cup. In morning session Russian girls lost to Mongolia 4-6.

GROUP A – China overpowers Ukraine 9-1
China is seeded 4th at this edition and after Japan the most successful nation in the world cup history. Chinese team in its opening encounter were pitted against Ukraine. The team from Ukraine is without their medal winners from the world championships and this costed them once again dearly as China loaded with star players defeated Ukraine 9-1. Sun Yunan, Rong Ningning won their bouts easily to do a star act for Chinese team who are schedule to battle it out with host Japan in the evening session. For Ukraine once again like previous tie against Japan, Alla Belinska salvaged some pride by winning against Juan Wang of China.
