Women wrestlers will begin partner training from next week at the ongoing national camp in Lucknow. The wrestling camp begin on October 10 with 12 wrestlers. They were put in quarantine for the first week, followed by individual training for the next seven days. From the third week onwards, the wrestlers will be allowed to practice with partners. “We are all excited to return to the national camp. Everyone is happy and waiting for the next week. We will begin our partner training from next week,” a senior wrestler who is part of the camp on condition of anonymity told WrestlingTV.
All 12 wrestlers and nine support staff and coaches who have joined were tested negative for covid-19. On the first day of the camp, everyone was seen greeting each other, joking and training for extended hours in the gym.
While some grapplers decided to jog around the track under head coach Kuldeep Yadav guidance, others chose to walk on the lush green ground before starting training with the Bulgarian Bag at the multi-purpose hall.
Tokyo Olympic-bound Vinesh Phogat, one of the participants at the national camp, posted a short clip of her training on Instagram doing single-leg deadlift. She wrote: “Quarantine, Let the games begin”.
Meanwhile, three grapplers, Lalita (53kg), Sakshi Malik (62kg) and Nisha (68kg) are yet to join others. According to Women’s head coach, Kuldeep Malik, the trio is expected to join them on October 25.
Once they arrive, they too will be quarantined for the first week and then allowed to train individually for another seven days. The women’s camp will be held until December 31.
