Adeline Gray is one of the greatest women wrestlers to have stepped on the mat. She is one of the flag-bearers of women wrestling and in an interview with United World Wrestling (UWW) she called for a revolution in it.
She is first-ever-five-time world champion. Gray has won gold medals at the world championships each of the last four times she has competed in the event. Her last defeat at the worlds came in 2013, when she earned a bronze medal to go along with a world bronze she won in 2011. The US wrestler is currently ranked No.1 in the world at 76kg.
During the interview, she was asked about her opinion on the competition in her weight class she said “I would be naive to not be prepared for some of those people. They are great people. They have long careers but what I think about when I see them is we don’t have a heavier weight class. And we see that these women have had longer careers because they were able to slowly move up in weight. I think that just the shining star that we need a bigger weight class”.
“These women are dominant and are able to be consistent and strong and get great at wrestling because they were able to continue to grow in the sport. And for so long, we lose some of those bigger women, so I think its just a very telling sign that we need more weights for women and we need weights that are bigger,” she added.
