The wrestling superpower of the world Russia has added another first to its proud wrestling history. Russia which won the most number of medals at the world wrestling championships in 2019 has now started exclusive arena for the Greco-Roman form of wrestling. In European countries including Russia, Greco-Roman form of wrestling is extremely popular and Russia is super-power in this form of wrestling as well. The exclusive Greco-Roman wrestling arena was inaugurated by the biggest legend of the world wrestling Alexander Karelin in Yakustk province of Russia.
Karelin won 3 Olympic gold medals and unprecedented 9 World Championship gold in the Greco-Roman wrestling. It was apt for his to inaugurate the world’s first exclusive arena for this form of wrestling. The credit of ??creating a hall for Greco-Roman wrestling which is considered as more classical form of sport goes to Dmitry Ushnitsky, who was the first of the Yakutians to master the Greco-Roman wrestling. The centre is equipped with all modern facilities, heating systems for the training of Greco-Roman athletes.
Karelin came for the inauguration despite of temperatures dipping to -48 degrees and felt extremely pleased about the effort. “I am very happy to see someone supporting Greco-Roman wrestling like this. I am sure with this wrestling arena Russia will have far better grip over the world in Greco-Roman”
In the world championships 2019 in Nur-Sultan, Russia once again dominated the Greco-Roman wrestling by winning the team titles by quite a margin. Russia won medals in 5 out of 10 categories and finished number 1 in the Greco-Roman standings with 132 points followed by Uzbekistan (80) and Georgia (79).
