Geeta Phogat, the first Indian woman to win a Commonwealth Games wrestling gold, in Delhi 2010, is expecting her first child. The wrestler, who was also seen performing dares in the reality TV show Khatron Ke Khiladi, has herself broken the “good news”.
Geeta has shared a picture, flaunting her baby bump in the backdrop of hills, on her Instagram handle. “A mother’s joy begins when new life is stirring inside when a tiny heartbeat is heard for the very first time, and a playful kick reminds that little one is never alone. You never understand life until it grows inside of you #pregnancy #babybump #motherhoodrising,” reads the caption.
Geeta had tied the nuptial knot with fellow wrestler Pawan Kumar on November 20, 2016. The couple is expecting their first child together.
Other than her heroics on the mat, she has also hogged limelight as the story of Aamir Khan-starrer Dangal is on the lives of Geeta, sister Babita and father Mahavir Singh Phogat, who was not just the first coach of the celebrated wrestlers but also broke conventions and defied the society to introduce his daughters to a sport that in Haryana and India is predominantly considered a men’s domain.
