A wrestling trainee allegedly stole Rs 3 lakh from the salary account of a superintendent of police (SP) in Punjab. The accused Dharminder Singh, 32, from Bharatpur, Rajasthan, trained at an akhara in Manakwal village, Ludhiana. The training centre is run by the SP Kehar Singh of Urban Estate, Dugri who is deputed with the third Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB).

The SP had earlier filed a complaint with the Dugri police station in January, but no action was taken as the akhara where the accused lived fell under the jurisdiction of the Sadar police. On Sunday, Kehar then filed an FIR at the Sadar Police Station against the Dharminder, Hindustan Times reported.

Kehar told the news daily that he had once given the accused his debit card and PIN to withdraw money from his account. Subsequently, the accused allegedly stole his debit card.

But it was after the SP received a call from his bank regarding the withdrawal of Rs 72,000 from his salary account, that he checked his account and found that Rs 3 lakh’s had been stolen.

Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Paramjit Singh is the investigating officer. He said that a case has been registered under IPC Section 379 for theft.
