2016 Olympic Champion Erica Wiebe organizes wrestling clinic for kids
The 2016 Rio Olympic gold medallist Canadian freestyle wrestler Erica Wiebe shockingly lost out in the quarterfinal stage of the just concluded world wrestling championship in Nur-Sultan. Wiebe lost very close bout to Epp Maee of Estonia in the 76kg weight category. To recuperate from the unexpected loss and to give it back to her sport, 30 year old Canadian has now a days organized a wrestling clinic for the kids.
held a two-day wrestling clinic in Weyburn at St. Michael School, with wrestlers on hand from many clubs around Saskatchewan, along with members of the U of S Huskies wrestling team. She held sessions on Saturday and Sunday, going over many techniques and styles where wrestlers could improve on their skills.
On Friday, she visited a number of schools to share her story about becoming an Olympic athlete and demonstrated some basic wrestling moves, and then she held a free clinic on Saturday morning for young children who might have an interest in taking up wrestling.
Wiebe, 30, still has a chance to secure a spot for Canada at the 2020 Olympics at the Pan Am Olympic qualifying tournament or world Olympic qualifier, assuming she wins at Canadian trials in December, according to Wrestling Canada.
