Wrestling News: The outbreak of COVID-19 which triggered the postponement of the Tokyo Olympics played a spoilsport on Frank Staebler’s retirement plans. Originally scheduled to hang the singlet this year, he will now have to wait for one more year before bidding the sport goodbye. While he eagerly waits to don the German singlet one last time, in an interview he revealed his post-retirement plans. He said he would like to make a career as motivational coach and speaker. “I’m really looking forward to the second phase of my life. I definitely want to work as a motivational coach and speaker. I’m looking forward to this challenge,” he said. .
He has certainly grown in this sector as the seven-time German champion has already gained a lot of experience thanks to his successful wrestling ventures. “We have already set up a great campaign in which I go to local schools and give motivational speeches for children. I have learned myself how much positive thinking is.” He wants to remain 100 per cent connected to wrestling, so his self-built world camp should also be used for youth and elite camps in the future.
Everything has been laid out for Stäbler’s career to end. In the next twelve months, everything will revolve around the last sporting dream: winning an Olympic medal after failing in London in 2012 and in Rio in 2016. “It is no longer just the pure gold that counts, but to go the way, bring the weight again and find my peace with the Olympics,” said the 31-year-old.
Staebler has already qualified for the Tokyo Olympics after winning gold at the world championships. He will compete in the 67kg Greco Roman weight category.
