In a first for the sport of wrestling in India, WrestlingTV.in will now LIVE stream the trials conducted by the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). The WFI will organize the trials to select the Indian squads for the forthcoming ranking series event in Rome, Senior Asian Championships in Delhi and most importantly to select the wrestlers for the Asian Olympic Qualifiers in China in March 2020. The governing body for the sport of wrestling in India WFI has finalized dateline and schedules for the trials.
According to WFI’s administrative secretary Vinod Tomar, trials will be conduct in the most transparent manner. Tomar said, “We want to select the best possible candidate to represent India in the Asian Championships & Olympic Qualifiers. WFI will give opportunity to all deserving candidates during the trials. Honourable President, WFI himself will oversee the trials. Live Streaming on WrestlingTV will further enhance the transparency levels of the trial process”
The trials for the men’s wrestlers will be conducted on 3rd Jan in Delhi. The teams in both freestyle and Greco-Roman category will be selected through the trials. The trials for the women team will be conducted on 4th Jan in Lucknow at SAI Centre.

Trials for Men’s Freestyle & Greco-Roman team will be conducted at K.D. Jadhav Wrestling Indoor Stadium in New Delhi. In the first leg of selection trials the entire focus will be on the Olympic Categories fo Senior Free Style & Greco Roman Style Wrestling. The second leg of the trials will be conducted for the Non-Olympic Categories in the second week of January. Only 65kg category in which Bajrang Punia participates and has qualified for the Tokyo 2020 has been exempted from the trials.
First LEG of Trials on 3rd January in Delhi
FS: 74, 97 & 125 Kg.
GR: 60, 67, 77, 87, 97 & 130 Kg.
Selection for –
1st Ranking Series International Tournament “Matteo Pellicone” to be held at Rome [Italy] from 15th to 18th January 2020 and Asia OG Qualifier to be held Xi’an [China] from 27th to 30th March 2020
2020 Senior Asian Championship to be held at New Delhi from 17th to 23rd February 2020
Weight Categories in which trial to be held:
FS: 57, 74, 86, 97 & 125 Kg.
GR: 60, 67, 77, 87, 97 & 130 Kg.
Second LEG of Trials in 2nd week of January for Non-Olympic categories
The Selection Trial in the following weight categories for selecting the teams for participation in the 2020 Asian Senior Championship will be held in the 2nd week of January 2020:
Free Style 61, 70, 79 & 92 Kg.
Greco Roman Style 55, 63, 72 & 82 Kg.
