The U23 World Wrestling championships is underway in Budapest, Hungary and India has got its first quarterfinalist of this championship. India’s Akash Antil has entered the quarterfinals of the U23 World Wrestling Championship
Last 16 bout – 97kg Akash Antil (India) vs Li Xu (China)
India’s disappointing run on the day was halted by Akash Antil in the 97kg weight category. Antil has entered quarterfinals of the world championships. In the last 16 bout Indian easily dismantled Li Xu from China 10-0. Antil was at his best in attack and did not give any chance to Chinese to comeback in match.

Antil will play his quarterfinal bout against the winner of Danylo STASIUK (UKR) vs. Ibrahim CIFTCI (TUR)
Qualification Round – 70kg – Naveen (Ind) vs Valiev Chermen (Russia)
In the 70kg freestyle opening round, India’s U23 National champion Naveen was no match for the Russian number 1 Valiev Chermen. Chermen was so dominating in his performance against the Indian that the bout did not even last 1.30 secs. With-in no time the champion from Russia overpowered Naveen to win the bout with-in 90 seconds by 11-0.
Qualification Round -79kg Veer Dev Gulia (India) vs Luckas Botond (Hun)
But Naveen’s loss to an extent was compensated by opening round victory by Indian wrestlers in the 79kg category – India’s Veer Dev Gulia was up against the host country wrestler Lukacs Botond. Right from the word-go Gulia created pressure on the Hungarian with his tight defense. In a hard fought bout Gulia managed to score 3-1 victory against the local hope. In the last 16 bout later in the afternoon today will play Ligan CHAI (CHN)
Qualification Round -57kg Naveen (India) vs Dauman Ahmet (Turkey)
Like his namesake in 70kg, in the 57kg freestyle category Naveen from India easily lost out to Duman Ahmet from Turkey. Naveen was no match for the Turkish wrestler and lost out 11-0 with-in no time to the national champion from Turkey.
