India’s most accomplished wrestler on the global stage in the recent times has predicted huge medal haul for Indian wrestling (Kushti) at Tokyo 2020 Olympics. In an interview to Olympicchannel.com Bajrang has predicted 4 medals for India in Tokyo 2020. According to Bajrang, “Four of us have qualified for the Tokyo Games so far. And the target is to win at least four medals at Tokyo 2020. I know it might seem like a big claim but if you look closely at the way we have gone about our job at the World Championships, I don’t think it’s impossible. We are surely working towards it,” he assured.
Indian wrestling (Kushti) is on upswing. By the day, supported by Wrestling Federation of India and its commercial sponsors and partners, Indian wrestlers are accomplishing new milestones everyday. India achieved record haul of 5 medals at the world wrestling championship in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan. Not only this 6 Indian wrestlers are ranked in top 5 of the world in their respective categories which further lend credibility to Bajrang’s claims.

How the rest of Indian wrestlers can qualify for the Tokyo 2020 ??
Not only these 4 but few more Indian wrestlers can qualify for Tokyo 2020 and India can hope for good performance in the Olympics. Indian wrestlers still have two chances to qualify for the Tokyo 2020Olympics. The first one in the Asian qualifier round in China (27th 29th March) and the last one in Bulgaria in the world qualifier slated for (30th Apr to 03rd May). In both the tournaments in order to qualify the wrestlers have to finish in the top 2 in their respective weight category to qualify for Tokyo 2020.
Rio 2016 medallist Sakshi Malik, World 2018 medallist Pooja Dhanda and couple of other talented wrestlers will claim the quota places via these tournaments to further substantiate the claims of Bajrang Punia.
