After months of repetitive postponements, it seems the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has finally made a decision on the resumption of the national camp. It has sent a proposal to the Sports Authority of India (SAI) according to which the starting date for the came is September 1. “We plan to begin the camp on September 1. If the proposal is accepted, the men will resume training in Sonepat, while the women’s camp will be held in Lucknow,” Vinod Tomar, WFI assistant secretary told New Indian Express. It comes as a piece of good news for Tokyo Olympic-bound wrestlers who are currently training individually at their respective local akhadas.
WFI’s plans to hold the national camp with limited strength. Only the five weight categories in Freestyle (57kg, 65kg, 74kg, 86kg, 97kg, and 125kg), and Women’s wrestling (50kg, 53kg, 57kg, 62kg, and 68kg) and three in Greco Roman (60kg, 77kg and 87kg) will join the camp.

Tomar claimed that wrestlers who were initially reluctant have given their nod for the camp. “Earlier, they were not ready to join the camp but now they are,” the report added.
Senior National Championships in December
He also confirmed, WFI is planning to organise the senior nationals in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh in December. The dates for the event will be 18 to 20. Tomar said, “The federation has proposed to organize Senior National Wrestling Championship in Gonda [Uttar Pradesh]. The Championship may take place from 18th to 20th December 2020”.
